Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Andre worked as a graphics assistant for 4 years in the advertising department of a Brazilian newspaper. He bought his first still camera – a Pentax - and developed a self-taught knowledge of photography. The invitation to shoot an experimental short film released a love for cinematography. He enrolled at LCP – The London Institute – to study film under the tutelage of William Raban, Michael Channan and Ken Macmillan. By graduation, he had shot twelve films as a cinematographer, four of which were shown at the NFT. He has created visuals for installation-work by artists such as Matt Collishaw and Italo Zuffi. He developed a passion for the aesthetics of body movement through collaborations with contemporary dancers and in particular the choreographer Rosemary Butcher. Based in London he works as a freelance DoP, shooting commercials and promos, dramas and shorts for TV, and documentaries that explore social and political issues around the world.
